MORTON-ON-SWALE PARISH COUNCIL

COVID-19 STREET WARDEN INITIATIVE (V1: 17/03/20)

Hello Everyone - as a community we face a potentially huge unfolding and unprecedented public health crisis. As a Parish Council, we believe that we can help the community though kick starting a community-centred proposal for our residents to help look out for each other. We envisage we can do this in 3 stages:

Stage 1- enlist volunteers

  1. If you are fit and well, and are willing and able to help, we are looking for any residents who could become "Community Wardens" to keep an eye on/look out for any of their friends/elderly/at-risk/self-isolating neighbours in the current crisis.
  2. Please tell us your details of which street/houses/areas in Morton-On-Swale that you could cover, what help you could offer, how much time you could give and what help do you already provide to residents – alternatively complete the form, (available via the link below), and return to the Parish Council (details below).
  3. Help could include picking up medication, post or urgent supplies. It could be giving someone a friendly phone call or helping to exercise/care for their pets.

CAVEAT: Of course, you would undertake this wholly at your own risk - taking all sensible precautions and following all the medical advice and direction to protect yourself and others would be essential at all times.

Stage 2 – reach out

  1. Using the form below (or using online link/form on our Facebook Page/Website), tell us where you are if you need assistance. Help could include picking up medication, post or urgent supplies. It could be giving someone a friendly phone call or helping to exercise/care for their pets>
  2. If you don’t need help now, keep hold of this leaflet with our contact details as this will be an ever-changing situation.

Stage 3 – co-ordinate

  1. A closed group for volunteers will be created where we can co-ordinate people power with asks for assistance. Hopefully we will be able to divide the village up spatially into manageable chunks for those able to help and assist. This will be fluid as volunteers and community needs will be ever changing, but we hope that by pulling together, we can assist those most vulnerable in our community. We are doing this in the spirit of looking out for each other - we are NOT medical experts – we do NOT have the answers, and we definitely do NOT want anyone to put themselves at any unnecessary risk. We hope that by pulling together we can support each other to minimise the impact of the following, days and weeks to our community.
